The People's Party hates cabbies

This is a beaut: in Boston, cabbies are threatening to go on vacation en masse during the Democratic National Convention because the DNC wants them to accept $12 per person vouchers (handed out by the DNC to the conventioneers) to transport Convention delegates from Logan Airport to the Convention. In addition, to get the actual money, the cabbies have to collect the vouchers and apply to the Democratic National Committee for reimbursement.

What's so bad? Typical cab fares ON THE METER, from Logan to central Boston are around $40. Thus, even if three conventioneers pile into a cab, the hack is still covering $4 (plus losing out on a $4-10 tip, depending upon the generosity of the passenger). But if one conventioneer gets a cab to himself -- that means the DNC is screwing the cabbie out of nearly $30.

Only the DNC would figure out a plan to have the low-income cabbies subsidize the high-income convention-goers.

Here are the details.
