Edwards' taxes good and bad

Courtesy the GreensboroChef, here's a snipet on John Edwards avoiding Medicare taxes from the NY Times:

Mr. Edwards paid $9,353,448 in federal taxes on his income of $26,869,496, but the shelter allowed him to avoid paying $591,112 in Medicare tax, the figures provided by the campaign show.

But as Howard Kurtz noted, the Times' story was buried on page 15 of the paper.

If that shelter had been used by Cheney, it'd be all over the front page.

Nonetheless, Edwards did pay the government more than 1/3 of his income so he really didn't shirk his "fair share." That kind of dodging is for Theresa Heinz (Kerry), who reportedly only paid around 15% of her income to the government last year despite being in a (to put it mildly) high tax-bracket. But, then again, who knows because Ms. Heinz (Kerry) won't release her tax returns.
