Professor Bainbridge and Kerry

Unlike John Kerry's "Because I said so" attitude to those challenging his assertions (see here), The Monk likes to offer proof that what you read is correct (if facts) or reasonable (if argument). And occasionally, The Monk will guide you to someone who has walked his paths before.

In this case, that someone is Stephen Bainbridge and he has numerous links demonstrating just how far left Kerry is. Let's go through the notables:

1. Kerry's lifetime Americans for Democratic Action (left-wing lobbyists) rating is 92; Paul Wellstone's was 99, Ted Kennedy's is 90. Kerry's lifetime American Conservative Union (right-wing lobbyists) rating is a mere 5. Bainbridge notes that from 1992-2000 (end of Bush I through Clinton), the average ADA rating for US senators was 42, while senators averaged 56 on the ACU's scale.

2. The late Wellstone lauded his own liberalism. From 1991-2000, however, Kerry was nearly as liberal as Wellstone during the years they were both in the Senate.

3. Investors and economists think Kerry's tax plans will hurt growth.

There's more from the good professor. And it just reinforces The Monk's fear: Kerry is the next Jimmy Carter.
