Assad Gambling

Bashir Assad, forced into a humiliating withdrawal of Syrian troops from Lebanon after the ill-advised assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Hariri, appears to be up to his old tricks again.

The Syrians test fired three Scud missiles Friday, one whose debris landed in Turkey, and, earlier today, a vocal Lebanese journalist who accused Syria of the Hariri assassination was car-bombed.

He seems to be gambling that the US and the French will let these acts go and he can regain some 'honor'. I think Assad would be well-advised to ensure that Zarqawi isn't found anywhere in Syria.
