The Yankee season, I fear, may just come down to this homestand. They are fortunate that they are only 6.5 games out and the AL East looks relatively weak this year. After having squandered the fruits of their 16-2 run they have 13 games at home, seven against Pittsburgh and Tampa, three against the Cubs and the Mutts. They can't afford to look down at any teams at this stage but this is a real opportunity to gain some ground before an absolutely brutal schedule in July that features Baltimore, Boston, Anaheim, Texas and Minnesota. Yanks need to go 10-3, 9-4 on the homestand.
If they go .500 it's probably over and they should take the chance to re-tool for 2006 starting with outfielders that can get on base.
