Sidney Goldberg, Mensch, RIP

Sidney Goldberg, a New York media consultant and Senior Vice President of United Media for Syndication, passed away last night after a long illness.

Sidney Goldberg is the father of Jonah Goldberg, the National Review Online's At-Large Editor, who is often quoted and linked here. Goldberg was also the husband of Lucianne Goldberg, the flamboyant literary agent with a passion for politics and her own website.

Neither the Monk and I knew Sidney Goldberg but we are great admirers of Jonah whose excellent, provocative, insightful writing enlivens the National Review. We didn't know you sir, but you raised a darned good son.

John Podhoretz, the political columnist, had the following comment:

Kind, friendly, amusing, amused, thoughtful, loving, clever, dapper, jaunty, principled, intellectually engaged, politically astute, wise.

Sid was the ultimate mensch.

I loved him, my wife loved him, our baby daughter loved him, everybody loved him, and the world is a smaller and colder and meaner place today without him.
