UKRAINE UPDATE

Viktor Yanukovych, corrupt outgoing PM of Ukraine, lost his appeal against the fair election of December 26 and the Ukrainian Central Election Commission will likely certify the result, Yushchenko by nearly 8%. Masha Gessen's two dispatches on Slate.com, here and here, describe Ukraine's societal outlook on New Year's.

Meanwhile, Discoshaman also reports that outgoing mini-Putin Leonid Kuchma sacked Yanukovych as PM and his entire Cabinet.

In other news, Discoshaman and Dan McMinn, the two most prominent and influential bloggers of the Ukrainian Orange Revolution, are working on a book about the Yushchenko victory and the people's movement that brought it about. McMinn worked in Yushchenko HQ and has a bunch of Orange Revolution swag for sale here, with links to more.
