THE King of late night, Johnny Carson, died earlier today. The link in the title will take you to the AP obituary.
Carson is the godfather of so many comedians that the list is without end. If a comedian made it from "stand-up" to time in "the chair" talking to the master, it would launch his or her career.
My parents watched Carson every night from the monologue through the first guest. His true heir is Letterman, who occasionally used jokes on his CBS Late Show with David Letterman that Carson would email him. No wonder PaMonk watches Letterman religiously.
Jeff Jarvis has a remembrance that resonates with folks of my generation here. And here's Carson's bio on the Museum of Broadcast Communications' website.
