Georgia Senator Zell Miller (D) responds to critics. This is a WSJ subscriber only piece so I'll summarize:
Critics: John Kerry and Dick Cheney opposed some of the same weapons systems
Zell: Timing is everything. JK opposed them during the Cold War, DC only after cold war and when modernizing the military
Critics: Zell said nice things about JK
Zell: Timing, again. That was before the 9/11 attacks and before the Democrats and JK became manically obsessed with bringing down the President
Critics: Zell is a racist
Zell: worked for three governors, not only Lester Maddox; attempted to remove Confederate emblem from state flag, appointed an African-American attorney general, appointed more African Americans to the state judiciary than all other governors combined, including Carter.
