You heard it here first

From a November 15, 2004 post:

Al Leiter on the Yanks?

Not yet.

But soon if the Mets 'lose' Leiter trying to save 3 million dollars. Big game, NY proven lefty should be a good match for the Yanks. He walks a few too many and pitch counts would need to be monitored but sported a 3.21 ERA and .218 BAA.

He did have an awful first half with the Marlins and Yanks saved themselves $7 million. It was the right move though to pick him up as soon as Wang went down. Drilling quickly into Leiter's stats, he's always walked too many but his K/BB ratio, 52/60, was especially egregious in 16 starts this year. The control problems have probably led to a higher than usual H/IP though that's still about one.

Try to get him as many Stadium starts as possible, monitor the pitch count and hope for 8-10 quality starts. I think he'll work out pretty well, he can pitch in NY and its a chance for a crafty veteran to finish his career where it started and maybe go the Big Dance one more time.
