Sports thoughts

First, the frivolous crap.

The Yankees had their fifth poor start in the last six games as Jon Leiber looked like a guy claimed off the ash heap of the DL when the Rangers whacked him around. Leiber now has an ERA of 5.01; Mussina has a 4.96 ERA; Contreras' is too high for print. That's 60% of the Yanks' rotation. Team needs to shape up because it cannot win a World Series by going through 7-6, 8-7 games in the playoffs and they cannot count on six-homer nights like they had yesterday.

Too bad that Smarty Jones got stupid. For some unknown reason, he started chafing at the bit with 1/4 mile left in the Belmont Stakes. If he hadn't, his trainer said (ESPN press conference) that he wouldn't have lost his stride and lost the opportunity to be the first horse in 26 years to win the Triple Crown.

The rest of the posts this weekend will be about important things: Ronald Reagan and D-Day.
