Speak what you think now in hard words, and to-morrow speak what to-morrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict every thing you said to-day. -- R.W. Emerson

Just freakish
That's the Yankees' proclivity for pulling out wins from losses. Today they wasted a good start by Javy Vazquez (8 IP, 2 ER, 8 K), couldn't touch their former teammate David Wells, and pulled even from 2-0 down with consecutive solo homers with two outs in the ninth off San Diego's closer, Trevor Hoffman (who's no stiff). Then, they cough up three runs in the 12th, trail 5-2 and string together a walk, double, RBI groundout, walk, RBI single, RBI double, intentional BB and sac fly to win 6-5. The posers who coughed up the lead, Rod Beck (who now has a high school level fastball) and Jay Witasick (a stiff the Yanks dumped a few years ago). The Yanks are 40-21 -- that's 32-10 since getting thumped by the RedSux in NYC in April.
