Steven Vincent was a freelance reporter who traveled into Iraq to see what the reality of life had become for Iraqis, unlike the Baghdad-based reporters for most of the major news outlets. He freelanced, writing pieces for National Review, the NY Times and others. This weekend he was in Basra, from where he wrote about a "death car" that cruises through the streets carrying former Baath-party cops sympathetic to (or paid by) the terrorists who carry out assassinations. Last night, Vincent and his translator became the assassins' newest victims.
