French Perfidy -- the latest disgrace

PaMonk likes to quote the Orwell comment to the effect that some ideas are so ridiculous only an intellectual could believe them. The Monk thinks Orwell had foreknowledge that a Chomsky and a Zinn would arise as influential professors in the West.

Evidently Orwell missed a class of persons to whom his observation would apply equally -- diplomats.

From today's Ha'Aretz, the largest newspaper in Israel, comes the delusional quote of the month, and it's only August 1. The speaker, French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy. Remarking on France's condemnation of Israel's attacks against Hizb'Allah (an Iranian puppet) during a meeting with Iran's Foreign Minister IN BEIRUT, Douste-Blazy said:

"It was clear that we could never accept a destabilization of Lebanon, which could lead to a destabilization of the region."

So who would help the French keep Lebanon "stable"?

"In the region there is of course a country such as Iran - a great country, a great people and a great civilization which is respected and which plays a stabilizing role in the region."

That's right: Iran is a great country that is a stabilizing force in the Middle East -- straight from the French Foreign Minister's mouth. The French are absolutely appalling.
