Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY): Scum

Strong words? Yup.

Well deserved? You be the judge.

Representative Charlie Rangel, the long serving Democratic representative from New York City was being interviewed on NY1, one of the NYC's local all-news channels. Asked about his opinion on NY State comptroller Alan Hevesi's recent comment: "Chuck Schumer is smart and brave and capable of putting a bullet between the president's eyes."

Rangel pooh-poohed the comment so much that even the NY1 interviewer asked "Are you giving Hevesi pass because he's a Democrat?" [NY1 is notably left-leaning.]

Rangel responded: [close paraphrase]

"George Bush might be the worst president in our history...and Alan really didn't mean it - he said it with a smile on his face."

Oh. So that excuses it.

This exchange then followed:

NY1: So what if Rudy Giuliani said this about a Democrat

Rangel: It would be very different because Rudy is incredibly mean-spirited and would have put a lot of thought into that...

SCUM about covers it.
